Dolottle guide
Build the server workflows your community actually needs.
This guide covers installation, everyday configuration, commands, message variables, permissions, and the major tools available in Dolottle.
01
Getting started
- Add Dolottle to your server.Use dolottle.app and choose Add Dolottle to Discord. You need permission to add apps to the destination server.
- Place the Dolottle role.Move it above every ordinary role Dolottle must grant, remove, customize, or use for moderation. Discord-managed roles cannot be assigned by bots.
- Open the dashboard.Sign in with Discord, select the server, and review its readiness and permission results before configuring features.
- Configure one workflow at a time. Most new entries start enabled. Dolottle reports missing required fields or permissions instead of saving a partially usable feature.
Run /app status for a current permission and installation report. Run /app review-permissions after reviewing the result.
02

Message variables
Variables are replaced when Dolottle sends the message. Availability depends on the feature because a ticket number, level, or bumper does not exist in every workflow.
Role groups can also be referenced in Dolottle-authored text with %group or %{Group Name}. Dolottle resolves the group when it sends the message, so its current roles are shown. Ordinary percentages such as 98%remain unchanged. The message's mention-notification setting determines whether expanded roles are notified or only displayed.
A Role Group can also allow member mentions. Members may then put its reference anywhere in an ordinary message, and Dolottle replies once with the current role mentions without deleting or recreating the member's message. Staff with Manage Server or Mention Everyone can invoke staff-only groups. Multiple groups are deduplicated, and unsafe or unavailable role mentions never notify partially.
Role selectors that support multiple roles list reusable groups first. Command access and giveaway eligibility can treat the expanded selection as either “any selected role” or “all selected roles.”

Tag responses can conditionally include text when an argument or explicit target is present. For example: {{#if arg1}}Value: {arg1}{{else}}No value.{{/if}}. Checks are limited to args, arg1 through arg10, and target_provided. Conditions cannot be nested and never execute scripts, commands, or network requests.
The dashboard shows feature-specific variables beside the relevant composer. Variables also work in supported embed text and button labels.
05
Voting for Dolottle
Use /voteto open Dolottle's Top.gg voting page. Voting is optional and a verified vote grants 100 currency units per vote weight in each mutual server where currency is enabled.
Voting is an application-wide Dolottle feature and has no server dashboard settings. Servers cannot configure separate vote rewards, XP, roles, or reminders.
06
Permissions and intents
Dolottle does not request Administrator. Its installation lists the individual permissions needed by the features it provides.
Message Content and Guild Members are privileged intents used for configured message workflows, Auto Roles, Sticky Roles, member events, supporter benefits, moderation mutes, and raid protection. A successful /app status response confirms the live Gateway connection and identifies missing server or installation permissions. Dolottle also audits both permission surfaces regularly.
07
Troubleshooting
A configured role mention does not notify members
Confirm the message allows role notifications and that Dolottle has Mention Everyone in the destination channel. Discord suppresses notifications for non-mentionable roles when that permission is unavailable.
Dolottle cannot assign or remove a role
Confirm Manage Roles is present and move the Dolottle role above the target role. Roles managed by Discord or another integration cannot be assigned manually.
A channel or message is missing from a selector
Confirm Dolottle can view the channel, then refresh after its channel catalog synchronizes. Message editors can load only supported messages the app is allowed to inspect.
A feature will not enable
Complete its required channel, role, message, or policy fields. The dashboard returns the toggle to off and explains the missing requirement.
A moderation or ticket action failed
Check Dolottle’s permission audit, channel overwrites, and role position. Failed administrative actions remain auditable rather than silently disappearing.
